COMPOSITION AND PROPERTIES

The major component of soapstone is Soap Stone while small amounts of iron and chromium oxides, amphiboles and chlorite are found in traces. By mass, it contains approximately 63% Silica, 31% Magnesia, 4% water and traces of other oxides like Calcium Oxide, Aluminium Oxide etc. Due to higher percentage of Soap Stone, Soapstone, is soft durable and feels like soap when touched. It is heat and electricity resistant, thereby, making it an apt material to be used as an insulator for electrical as well as housing components. Depending upon the mineral content, Soapstone comes in various hues and colours like green, black, grey, greyish blue etc. During fabrication, Soapstone can be oiled to give off a richer dark look. 

TYPES OF SOAPSTONE

Soapstone is classified into two types depending upon the percentage of Soap Stone found in it. The one, containing high percentage of Soap Stone, artistic grade Soapstone, while the other one having lower Soap Stone percentage is, architectural grade Soapstone. Because of higher Soap Stone percentage, artistic grade Soapstoneis softer and apt for carvings and sculptures. The architectural grade soapstone is tough, durable and widely used in homes. USES

Depending upon its type, Soapstone is used for a variety of purposes like counter tops and sinks in kitchen, coasters, sculpture, in laid designing of houses etc. In some parts of the world Soapstone is used to make bowls, cooking slabs and utensils etc. In cold countries, Soapstone is popularly used in making counter tops above fireplace due to its high heat resistance. In India, Soapstone is widely used as a carving medium and architectural purposes like shower bases, sinks, counter tops, floor tiles etc. Many artisans use Soapstone to make wine glasses, cooking utensils, pots & pans, bowls, vases, jewellery boxes, and statues etc 

APPLICATION OF SOAP STONE POWDER

In Plastics:-

Soap Stone is an excellent reinforcing filler in polypropylene and engineering thermoplastics for automotive parts, domestic appliances, E&E components and food packaging. They are used for antiblocking in polyethylene, restore mechanical properties to recycled plastics and are ideal nucleating agents in biopolymers and semi-crystalline polymers. The Soap Stone manufactured by Galaxy Global possesses High Purity, Excellent Whiteness and Brightness, Lamellar Structure, excellent mechanical property, improves scratch resistance and HDT, minimizes the shrinkage as compare to conventional grinding , Silica Free and minimum iron content. Paint & Coating:-

 Soap Stone is an ideal multi-functional pigment, filler and extender in water borne, solvent borne and powder-coat based architectural and industrial paints, where they improve mechanical properties, optical properties and production processes. They also bring benefits to color concentrates, enamels, varnishes, gel coats, inks, putties, body fillers, mortars and  asphalts. Our ultrafine grades of Soap Stone also help to partially replace TiO2, Improve water, alkali & stain resistance and give excellent colour and brilliance to paint. Our Soap Stone also helps in Controlled oil absorption and viscosity. 

In Paper:-

Our Soap Stone is highly lamellar and soft having 1 on the Mohs hardness scale. This natural property provides a series of benefits in papermaking and recommended to use as filler and pitch control. As filler it gives excellent smoothness, porosity and opacity to paper in addition to reducing the cost. As compared to GCC it is less abrasive so it increases the wire and felt life. Also to control Pitch and Stikies during the paper making process.

 In Ceramics & Engineered Stones:-

Soap Stone can be used in the manufacturing of ceramic products such as bathroom fixtures, ceramic tiles, pottery and dinnerware. When used as a filler in ceramics, Soap Stone can improve the firing characteristics of the greenware and the strength of the finished product. Being used as a flux agent for glaze with low iron content, reduces the melting point of ceramic glazes and improves their vitrifications. When used as a flux agent for ceramic by reducing the process temperature and the firing time, Soap Stone reduces the processing costs. In Ink & Pigment:-
